Energy Harvesters for Human-Monitoring Applications
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper introduces the basics of energy harvesters and demonstrates two specific vibratory-type energy harvesters developed at the University of Hyogo. The fabrication and evaluation results of the vibratory-type energy harvesters, which employ electrostatic and electromagnetic mechanisms, are described. The aim of developing these devices is to realize a power source for an autonomous human monitoring system. The results of harvesting from actual human activities obtained using a data logger are also described. Moreover, challenges in the power management of electronic circuitry used for energy harvesting are briefly discussed. key words: energy harvester, wireless sensor network, WSN, photovoltaic cell, thermo electric generator, RF harvester, electrostatic, electromagnetic, vibratory type

متن کاملEnergy Harvesting from the Stray Electromagnetic Field around the Electrical Power Cable for Smart Grid Applications
For wireless sensor node (WSN) applications, this paper presents the harvesting of energy from the stray electromagnetic field around an electrical power line. Inductive and capacitive types of electrodynamic energy harvesters are developed and reported. For the produced energy harvesters, solid core and split-core designs are adopted. The inductive energy harvester comprises a copper wound coi...
متن کاملEnergy Harvesting in Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) enable many vital applications ranging from environmental monitoring to human health control. Main research efforts in the WSNs focused on minimizing energy consumption because wireless sensor nodes are mostly powered by batteries which are usually hard to replace. Recent research on long-lasting WSNs is proposing energy harvesters combined with rechargeable batt...
متن کاملA Self-Powered Insole for Human Motion Recognition
Biomechanical energy harvesting is a feasible solution for powering wearable sensors by directly driving electronics or acting as wearable self-powered sensors. A wearable insole that not only can harvest energy from foot pressure during walking but also can serve as a self-powered human motion recognition sensor is reported. The insole is designed as a sandwich structure consisting of two wavy...
متن کاملKinetic and thermal energy harvesters for implantable medical devices and biomedical autonomous sensors
Implantable medical devices usually require a battery to operate and this can represent a severe restriction. In most cases, the implantable medical devices must be surgically replaced because of the dead batteries; therefore, the longevity of the whole implantable medical device is determined by the battery lifespan. For this reason, researchers have been studying energy harvesting techniques ...
